Discover our large range of internal filters and ensure your aquarium stays crystal clear!
Making use of internal filters to remove contamination in your tank is a fantastic way to overcome dirty water and ensure the continued health of your fish.
Filters will remove fish waste and bacteria from in your aquarium. This keeps your tank water clear and maintains important levels such as pH in your aquarium.
How does an internal filter work?
An internal filter is designed to sit in the rear corner of the aquarium with the outlet just below the water surface.
An internal filter is designed to sit just below the water level. It will continuously pull water through a sponge and/or other filter media, removing debris and fish waste. Overtime your sponge will develop a good bacteria system that also helps stabilise the chemical levels (such as ammonia and pH levels) in your tank.
Do I just set and forget?
Whilst we wish you could install a filter and forget about the cleanliness of your tank forevermore, this simply isn’t the case.
You will need to rinse your filters sponges and periodically replace them. If you do not do this your filter will begin running slowly. Due to the grime and fish waste, your filter will work less effectively.
It is best to rinse your sponge in the old tank water and NOT tap water. Tap water in Australia contains chlorine. It will kill the friendly bacteria your filter has worked so hard to cultivate!
If you’re anything like us at Nick’s Pet Needs, you want to reduce the amount of work it takes to keep your beautiful fish tank clean. An internal filter is a great way to accomplish this!
